Dominant Performance in Thailand

Entering the final day with a five-shot lead, Yin maintained her composure at Siam Country Club’s Pattaya Old Course. She carded a bogey-free 7-under 65, culminating in a tournament-record total of 28-under 260. This impressive feat surpassed the previous tournament record of 26-under 262 set in 2022.

Akie Iwai’s Remarkable Challenge

Japanese rookie Akie Iwai made a significant impact, firing a stunning final-round 61. Her round included ten birdies and an eagle, bringing her to a 27-under 261 finish, just one shot shy of Yin. Iwai’s performance not only set the day’s lowest score but also marked her as a rising star on the tour.

Historical Context and Records

Yin’s 28-under total is among the lowest 72-hole scores in LPGA history, though it falls short of the all-time record of 31-under 257 set by Sei Young Kim in 2018. This victory makes Yin the fourth American to win the Honda LPGA Thailand, joining the ranks of Lilia Vu (2023), Jessica Korda (2018), and Lexi Thompson (2016).

Quotes from the Champion

Reflecting on her performance, Yin stated, “I wasn’t that comfortable because Akie shot 10-under the first day and this course is very gettable. So I just had to keep my head down.” Her strategic focus and resilience were evident as she navigated the challenges posed by Iwai’s exceptional play.
